While most plastic products have been produced by companies by processing steps, OHMI undertakes the entire process from product design, mold, injection to parts assembly. Fujiike says, "Our strength is that once we receive a product drawing, we can work on it all the way through to completion."

Another feature of the company is its technological capability to handle everything from ultra-precision molds to large molds. The company has introduced injection machines with forming capacities ranging from 20 tons to 1,600 tons. This facility has enabled the mass production of large products such as commercial air conditioner panels.

OHMI has three factories equipped with these technologies in Japan and one each in China and Vietnam, and has grown into a company that produces a wide variety of plastic products.

●Reforms are implemented with an undaunted attitude

Over the past 28 years, Fujiike has implemented various reforms. He has been working on streamlining and improving the efficiency of operations, named "Forward 50". He set high standards: a 50% reduction in the defect rate, a 50% reduction in setup time, and a 50% increase in production efficiency. "The number 50 was an absurd number, but I thought it would be good if I could achieve 20 or even 30," he said. Gradually, his thoughts were conveyed, and the "Forward 50" program gradually began to produce results.

●"No challenge, No success" philosophy to foster people and organizations

Fijiike says, "When I became the CEO, I decided to try something we had never done before. So I always tell employees that if there is something they want to do, they should do it. If they try something and find it doesn't work out, they can always think of the next move."

And he wants people to be able to think for themselves before being told what to do. As one measure to achieve this, the company is trying to change its mindset from a vertically divided organization to a horizontally skewed organization. Now, lateral communication has been created, and information sharing within the company is progressing.

Fujiike will continue to actively promote the introduction of machines that make operations more efficient and the construction of labor-saving systems.
